7/19 In to Bangkok

Here we are, finally at Bangkok, 6:30 in the morning. Most of the travelers had just woken from their sleep and were yawning with thier mouths open wide. Dude c'mon, nobody brushed their teeth last night, just keep it close a little please.

The bus dropped all of us at the NCA stop in Bangkok after providing one lst service of a wet tissue and some soy milk. It seemed like the NCA station was a bit far from the Mo Chit Bus Station, so I took out my GPS trying to locate myself. Just then, a guy appeared by my side with a small bag asked me whether I wanted to share a cab or not.

Both of us were going to the BTS Mo Chit, with one more to share the fare, why not? That guy was Chinese and from GuangXi, he was also a college student from Chiang Mai and was visiting his friend in Siam Center. His English was pretty poor, so he said, that explained the pleasant look on his face when he spotted me.

We arrived at the Mo Chit BTS when the taxi fare clock hit 49, the cab driver hurried us out since there were police officers around looking to fine all the cars that were blocking the road. I stuck a 30 B bill into the hand of the driver, so did my new met friend; the driver was supposed to return us 11 B but since he was in a real hurry, the money went into a tip.

My new destination would be the National Stadium once we reached the BTS Mo Chit, it was only about 7 but the station was totally crowded. I bid goodbye to my Chinese friend when the sky train dropped him off at Siam, and it was only about two stops away that I too, walked out of the station. I followed the directions of the GPS and wandered around, checking Bangkok out. It was just like a big, modern city, with people that were a little bit more dark-skinned than me, and some small booths selling cool looking foods.

My new lodge was called The Fifth Residence and was a little bit far away from the National Station BTS. And by the time I found way into the region, it seemed a little deserted and remote, but since I had paid the three night stay via credit card, I had no choice but to keep looking in the area. Finally I located the Fifth Residence at the end of a scary lane.

The hostel itself was pretty cute, I was told that my room was on the sixth floor(the elevator only reached the fifth)after handing over a 1000B deposit. The room was pretty nice, and came with a cheap price. The thing is, there weren't any bed covers, pillows, quilts or any of the towels and brushes. Was this the reason why this room came in so cheap? I had no idea about the situation, since I booked the room a few days ago on Agoda. Anyway, I was already very satisfied with a bed and some air conditioning after a bad night sleep and lots of walking with big backpack.

The first thing after putting my stuff down after reaching a new lodge was not about lying in bed and taking a rest or nap. I connected my phone to the wifi and started listing things that were to be done here in Bangkok: Exchange money, book the next hostel, book the bus ticket...etc. It's better to take note of these things before I could finally lie down, clear my head and take a rest.

(I booked the accommodation in Siem, Cambodia, which only costed me about 7 USD per night) I left the residence after a short break and started going pioneer on the remote areas of Bangkok, before finally reaching the regions of National Stadium. Bangkok was a little bit like Kuala Lumpur, but felt more traditional in many ways: the foods, the dressing of the people and many of their buses and cars had elephants or cultural paintings on them.

Rain started to fall in the afternoon, and was going on big for a pretty long time. I made my way to Tesco, which was just like Carrefeur after the rain had stopped. I bought some crackers, few bags of junk food, many bottles of fresh juice and one can of syrup rambutan!

The rain started to fall again after I finished my shopping in the mall, so I was kinda forced to have dinner in the shopping lot. I had a simple fried chicken set in KFC and had my first taste of Thai Chicken haha, it was pretty cheap, at about 70B.

Funny thing is that there were a foreign couple sitting next to me and they had so many fries and a full bucket of chicken. They were panting and seemed very full from all the fried food and stuff. Finally they couldn't finish all that they ordered, the guy asked me whether I could take one of their pieces, so I did haha.

My first day in Bangkok was pretty smooth and pleasant, except for the rain that was pouring on our heads. Keep it up Bangkok, or you might lose to Chiang Mai in the ranking of my heart.
