7/07 Keep Moving!

I was brushing my teeth in the morning and Auntie Ail(The owner of Fernloft) just popped out by my side and started talking to me in language I had never known. Then she squeezed in front of me to the mirror checking herself out... I was kinda in shock, then she realized that she was talking to me in Indian and apologized XD. Auntie told me that she felt the ground shaking last night while she was half asleep and she feared there was an earthquake. So she took a cab and got to the McDonald's, stayed there for two hours and came back.

I was totally speechless...

Our landlord sensed danger and just fled herself, leaving all her customers sleeping soundly in the rooms, oh my god. Anyway, I packed my bags and decided to bid the Fillipino girl goodbye before leaving, but she was sleeping so soundly and I found it hard to wake her. So long, I guessed.

I left for the MRT station after grabbing one last free sandwich provided by Auntie, I was in a very good mood, until rain drops started to fall from the sky...No! And my flip flops slipped, I almost sat on the ground.

I got the Kranji station from Chinatown after a couple of minutes, and there were several people waiting for the buses at the station outside. My targets are the direct bus CW1 or the 170 that go around the city. I thought about traveling to Station Woodland and crossing the border on my feet before, but that was just totally stupid. Good, a CW1, I paid the tickets and it took us to the border checking point of Woodland, time to leave Singapore!

I had my passport checked and found myself another CW1(the old one just left after dropping us, but you don't have to buy another ticket after checking out at the border) This time the bus driver left us at Xinshan, the check point before going into Malaysia, and left us again... It felt pretty sweet and smooth, I had left Singapore and entered Malaysia in no time, and I found myself another bus to carry me deeper to the Larkin Station, where I can take other rides to the rest of the cities.

Larkin station was extremely crowded, full of tourists and people trying to sell tickets to the tourists. There wasn't any money exchange service around, but luckily I had changed 100 USD into RMs in Singapore beforehand, how thoughtful. I bought a ticket from bus 707m which costed me 21 RMs and journeyed toward Melacca in ten minutes.

The ride was pretty smooth, except for the freezing air conditioner that won't let you shut down. And it's about 2 hours before arriving at the destination. Things were smooth, I said to myself, before reaching a big problem.

We arrived at Melaka Sentral, and I planned to walk to the famous Jonker Street, where I had booked my room beforehand. It's a very very long walk, about 1 and a half hours, with two bags on me and the desire for food and bathroom. However I stuck to my guts, telling me that I would be able to get some decent resting time after arriving at my new home.

The thing is, I couldn't find the place that I had booked on the Internet after arriving at Jonker Street... It was the middle of the day with the sun blazing cruelly right over my head, I was wet from head to toes, with sweat dripping freely from my body, yet I couldn't find the place to stay, and I had even paid the room using my credit card!

I felt like I was going to tumble, and weakness began to take over me. My mouth was dry and lips cracked, I'm starting to not like Melacca...My feet burned from the heat of the hot ground, and I'm starting to have blisters again. Luckily I found a hotel called Jonker Boutique hostel at the end of Jonker Street and went inside.

I asked for the cheapest room, 2 nights stay before going limp on the couch. The price of the room was high, even after the clerk had managed to give some discounts. 200 RMs per night, and a total of 4000NT for two nights! I'm a backpacker and have a small budget, I feed upon cheap food and drinks, live in cheap hotels, but only to ditch the BACKPACKER CODE in my second city, the fourth day of the trip... I wasn't in much mood to turn away the offer so I took it, a deluxe room with king size bed that I hadn't had anytime to enjoy before going into a coma. I felt much better after a nap, and went out for a walk, some food and beverages. Well, welcome to Melacca, Malaysia.
