7/14 Roaming

Slept late till 9 today, for I've finished most of the sightseeing spots in Heidelberg so I thought that maybe I deserve some rest during my last day here.

I hopped out of the hotel once fully dresses. My feet still hurt from yesterday's all day trek, especially my right toe, the pain was hard to ignore. Anyway, I made my way to the Heidelberg University and it was quite spectacular. The buildings were a little bit older, but pretty magnificent, I roamed the campus and students tended to stare at me, a lot, some with smiles but most with suspicious looks. Is it really that obvious that I don't belong here?

I went looking for some souvenirs in the other half of the city. I was craving for some nice Germany chocolates, a kind of edible tablets that turn into bubbles once you put them in the water, a dictionary for Audrey, my girlfriend. But I didn't come across any of them through my whole exploration.

Lunch was at Burger King, which was much more expensive than the ones in Taiwan but I just had to try out the taste of fast food here in Germany. I had a long chili cheese meal, two pieces of pounded beef with lots of cheese and Mexican Chili's. It was amazing, a little bit spicy and totally satisfying. My dad would truly fall in love with the recipe if he were here.

There were also many kinds of beverages to choose from, and there was this touch screen on the coke machine, pretty advanced huh? Though most of the drinks tasted really alike.

I roamed into the Northern suburban areas after lunch, and after a few hours of walking I was hurting so bad that I had no choice but to turn back. It was then that I discovered that I had come so far in the afternoon and I was too far away from my hotel.

What shall I do, limped back and try to make it in three hours or four?

I decided to stick out my thumb for exchange, that's right, to chance a ride and hitch hike home. Cars shot by quickly and none stop to assist, I thought that Europeans were much more open about this!

Just as I was about to give up, a small truck stopped by and an old man with hairy beard, a pipe in his mouth said hello to me. He welcomed me aboard, and with gratitude, I sat shotgun in the truck and we chatted until he brought me to Leonardo.

Thanks to the old man, a million, and this story taught us that sometimes if you are brave enough to ask, you may get what you want.

Dinner was at a supermarket again, which was also located in thw suburbs and only a 20-minute walk.
I'll be heading to Karlsruhe at 12:48 tomorrow, wish me luck and good bye to you Heidelberg.
