I am going to Heidelberg this afternoon and I am more than just excited.
The ride is set to depart at two thirty, and it's only an hour's distance away. However, easy hotel's policy claimed that all residents have to check out before 10 am, and that's why I moved all of my bags to the locker in the train station.
It's only been three days in Frankfurt city but I have grown quite accustomed to it, though I lost my way to suburban areas almost once a day.
It hit me while I was roaming through the streets and paying the city one last glance that my 3g sim card won't be working in the last four nights, when I enter France, which means that I will have to find a hotel with WiFi and download an offline map. No worries, I will find my solution to that later, I am not even in my second stop of the whole trip yet
wink emoticon
At about two in the afternoon, I got back to the station just to see the train rolling steadily into the spot. People filed in a line and off we went!
There are like three small stops between Frankfurt and Heidelberg, we were suppose to be arriving at a quarter past 3 but due to unknown delay, we were 40 minutes late.
Anyway, I made it out of the train and the first thing was to take a good whiff of the Heidelberg air. Smells fresh and comforting. It was about a 20 minute hike into the suburbs from the station to Leonardo Hotel, but it took me about 40 minutes to get there.
The hotel seemed great and pretty classy, I put all of my stuff down and headed straight out toward the nearest supermarket, only to find it closed early due to weekend terms.
Out of no choice, I spent almost two hours walking to the city center to get food and water from another supermarket, enjoying the view on the way.
It's pretty late by the time I got back and very much exhausted. Thanks to the latitude of German, night doesn't fall quickly even when it's around 8 or 9 o'clock.
I will be heading toward the Schloss Heidelberg and the bridge first thing in the morning, wish me luck!
