Brisbane is just like Sydney without those
creatively designed buildings. If to mention Perth as a small town and
Melbourne as an old fashioned city, Sydney would be refer to the modern
metropolitan, leaving Brisbane to the title of best city for vacation.
We wandered out of the Roma transit centre
and stood on the Roma ST.
Chill Backpackers was located on the Upper
Roma St, which meant by the Roma Street only with few minutes of walking toward
the East. Australians are really nice and helpful, one of the passerby aided us
before we had the chance to ask. He must have saw us looking confused at the
map…We followed his instruction and kept walking
until we saw a tall, blue building. But it was way too beautiful for a backpacker
hostel! It was like a villa stood shining in the sunshine, today might be our
lucky day!
It was until the moment we came forward and
checked out the huge sign: Chill Backpackers that we gasped out loud, we’re
really moving into that beautiful building. Roxie and I would be staying in
Chill for a week and take a public transportation to Gold Coast, and after five
days we would be going back to Taiwan!~
It’s still G for the ground floor, providing
the residents with reception and internet lounge. Third floor was the kitchen
and a public patio for hanging and snookering. It also provided us with a TV
room and some benches for sun tan.
The coolest facility in the building would
be the bathroom which was in the co-ed mode, the girls and boys used it altogether
no matter it’s showering or peeing and pooping. I thought some of the residents
might feel pretty uncomfortable with that HAHA.
The craziest thing would be the two German
girls who sat behind us on the XPT from Sydney, lived just by our room! What a coincidence.
We explored the CBD with them.
CBD was some distance from Upper Roma St but
we sucked it and walked there, admiring and discussing about the people,
buildings of Brisbane on the way. There was this black guy juggling with
basketballs and doing tricks on the streets, he was pretty good and got many
applauds and tips. His FINALE would be putting a spinning ball on top of
another spinning ball.
I had Oporto(Idian chicken burger booth) for
lunch under one of the department stores in a food court, it wasn’t expensive
and tasted pretty good. Score one for trying out foreign food!
In the following day, we roamed around the
CBD taking pictures, the jurisdiction hall and city hall, etc. Many people were
skating all around us, seemed like skating was a popular sport in Brisbane. We
even headed to the Big W, which was a lot like Carrefeur back in Taiwan,
Woolworths was just by its side, we bought juice and nuggets, plus 12 gigantic
Croissants for dinner!
It was a tough trip home and it was all
because of me. I chose not to take the same route back but on to a bridge
thinking that it was a beautiful night view. I wasn’t aware that the bridge led
to South Brisbane across the sea… by the time we got to South Brisbane, the day
was dark and we had to figure out a way to cross the water and get back to
Brisbane. Many of the bridges were for cars only and it took us about half an
hour to find the right bridge for pedestrians. It was the fourth bridge we
checked out and both of us were already starving and exhausted.

At the end of the bridge there was this only
path which didn’t lead us back to the streets but just around the water, we
tried climbing up across the hills only to find us by the side of rushing cars
and there was no traffic light for them to stop! Just run across the rushing
traffic? Don’t be ridiculous… we got back down to the path. It was like after
walking for a total hour did the path forked up and one led back to the CBD, we
chose it gratefully and went back to the city centre where we continued back to
Upper Roma St.
Things didn’t go smoothly still after that.
We were ready to bake the Croissants and nuggets when we got back to Chills,
but they say that the plates and utensils were for rented! Oh my god this is
like bullying, we chose to eat the bread uncooked…
Our first night at Chills, I can hear the
snoring next-door for the whole night.
As for the co-ed bathroom, it really made
Roxie felt awkward for most of the users were boys and few were girls.
