All the photo shooting today drained every
bit of electricity out of my Ipod!
The main role of today’s schedule was
Darling Harbor and just to make sure that we get up early enough, I drew open
the curtains to the windows so that the sunshine could wake us up.
We continued our cornflakes breakfast for
the morning meal, two big bowls per person. After that it’s our hyper energetic
walk to Darling Harbor! We chose one of the entrances just by the side of
tumbalong park which was surrounded by green grass and fountains. There was a
Chinese fashioned garden next to the park but how vicious of them to charge
people money for entrance! Still, loads of the foreigners pay the fee and went
in for a tour. The weather was nice and smooth, we strolled lazily around the
South Wharf.
Entertainment Centre was closed even on the
weekends with hundreds of sales opportunities. It’s a disappointment so we
crossed our way back and past the Tumbalong Park where we came by.
Roxie was really tempt by the water and she
loved getting extremely close by it checking for fish and corals against the
wall. In that case we really found some fish swimming against the surface, but
looked like a bunch of tilapias… looks like they were planning on taking over
the world! First Asia and now in Australia? As for me, I was pretty afraid of
slipping on my goot and prowling into the water, taking my Ipod , lots of
diaries and 3000 pictures with me.
The Aquarium and the Wax Museum plus City
zoo were all linked together and it would be costing us 37 AUD per visit each
person, and they didn’t provide any special discount for students or kids.
I was really interested in the wax thing and
the zoo was just an guarantee that we would definitely see some kangaroos and
koalas during our stay in Australia, just to be in case. It’s lucky that we
bumped into their linked tickets sale at that time and they allow the tourists
to pick any of the sights, 2 out of 5 or 3 out of 5 or 4 out of 5. (City Zoo,
Aquarium, Wax Thing, Sydney Tower, Penguin Island) it’s two for 65, cheaper
than the original 37+37=74, and it’s three for 70, just 5 AUD more for another
exhibit. We chose the three-together coupon: Zoo, Aquarium and Wax. Although it
was a great deal of money altogether, but both of us were extremely excited!
We decided to visit the zoo first. It was
divided into several areas and they had all these different kind of sections
for all the animals: the fish, reptiles, amphibians, etc.
It was a shame that we didn’t get our eyes
on any of the Red kangaroos and platypus or either the emus and quill birds…
but in the end you get to see a gigantic crocodile swimming next to you just a
piece of glass away!
The Zoo wasn’t known for its size but its
content, and it kept us busy until the afternoon. Many kids came with their
parents and were having a great time playing and picnicking on the grass. We
were far from the CBD and it would be a schedule full of wax statues for the
rest of the afternoon, that’s when we decided to find something to eat around
Darling Harbor.
Darling Harbor provided the tourists with
many options, seafood, pizzas and spaghetti but most of them were 30 AUD and
above. At last we found a grilled chicken burger shop opened by Indians and I
ordered a big beef burger which was just fine. Roxie had three little chicken
burgers which tasted just dry. There was this vendor selling beverage just
around the corner and out of thirst, I bought a 4 AUD coke from him… they were
really killing it at tourist spots…
In the meantime, a Japanese street artist
started performing just in the middle of the square, he danced and even blew
fire! Making our afternoon more wonderful and refreshing.
The Wax museum following by was so cool and
all the statues felt so real! We took photos with most of the statues, some
were politicians, athletes, movie stars and celebrities. We were rushing back
and forth in the museum trying to leave a picture of the statues and us in the
Ipod for its running out of battery. It was a great experience and some great
awesome time while we look at the pictures and think back to the memory.
We planned on having Dragon Boy for dinner
but it wasn’t open for the night. So we cooked some noodles with vegetables and
eggs back at the hostel.
