TED/Toni Griffin: A new vision for rebuilding Detroit

What's the first thing that comes into your mind when someone mentions Detroit? I will think of Piston...one of the NBA teams. As a Taiwanese, I won't be ashamed that it's all I know, for I am not an American, however, what's the most famous thing in Piston? The cars! And many of the gears and mechanical parts of vehicles, public transportations.

Detroit is one of the places that make the best of wheels and mechanical tools, for they have many professional factories in doing so, and many of the companies run down in a family. Where the grandfather pass down the skill to the father and the father to the son. The secret of making a good tire, or a good car, is just like a secret recipe, which they don't share it with the outsiders.

However, as mentioned in the lecture, the government that controlled Detroit is thinking of a new way to make money, other than just making change to gears and mechanical parts for the other states. So they think of tourism, food processing and many others, with a mean to rebuild Detroit.

I think it's a good idea when a state, a province or a country is trying to figure out something new for it's people. Rather than sticking it to the old policy throughout the years, it may be a risk, but who knows it will or will not work out? And that's why it's encouraged to take a shot and give it a try. If same thing can goes for Taiwan, I'm pretty sure that many will be first up there and give it our support.
