TED/Stephen Cave: The 4 stories we tell ourselves about death

Throughout the years, we've always think, and imagine, what it feels like to experience the moment of death. Some say that we will go peacefully, if we are offer the option of death by old age. The other terrible options like burning or drowning aside, sometimes I also wonder what it will be like to die.

And that's where this lecture comes from, by stating the four most popular stories about death, of all ages. I won't be here telling people and spilling out the beans about the content of the stories, but I would be glad to share my feelings and opinions.

Some of the stories are meant to be close to reality, and some's existence to sooth the mind of people. Nobody really knows what's it like to die, of course, for nobody actually came back to tell the tale. However, through the centuries, people of different race, tribes or countries and religions, have come up with some of the tales of their own. And believe it or not, some of them are quite believable and famous throughout the world.

As for the reason why people continuously come up with these tales, with some of them ridiculous and many others crazy, is that most people are indeed, afraid of death. What happens when one pass away, where will we go to? How about our spirit? Is it a sudden pain then nothing, or continual agony? We know nothing about it and no one can give an answer, so I guess that's why these stories are popular, for people will choose one, which sounds the most believing to believe in. For one it sooth the mind, and the second it won't hurt to do so.
