TED/Deborah Gordon: What ants teach us about the brain, cancer and the Internet

When I was just a kid, I had always find the ants interesting and extremely fascinating. I would catch some ants and put them in the tank, with soil and water in order to build a natural habitat for them. The purpose of the deal wasn't just for fun, or to fulfill the pet dream in my head. I am just really into observing the society of the ants. Like said in the TED topic, when the author looks at the ants, she thinks of the human race, how we function and the deals in our societies. We may not have a real queen, and nor are all of us blood related, but we, the people are working together indirectly to keep the whole world spinning.

The ants are also like the brains of animals and human beings, how the brain function with different kind of cells, with different jobs and purposes. All of them together make our head works and bring out our talent. The Internet is also the same, it isn't just a simple engine, but the combination of millions or billions websites; Another example of the lecturer today is the disease cancer, as we may not know, cancer isn't just formed of a simple kind of virus. Different kind of viruses have their own specialties, and they target at the different part, organs of a human being (animals).

The viruses of cancer also coordinate with one another, work well together, and through this kind of cooperation work, they take down their targets. The main purpose of this TED video is to observe all these kind of events happening around us and comparing them to ants. It's not to refer them as a kind of ant behavior, but to depict the true power when we start working together, instead of doing it individually. Just like said in many proverbs or old tales, the power of a crowd is stronger than one.
