TED/Andrew Bastawrous: Get your next eye exam on a smartphone

As we all know, smarphones are the trend of the 21st century, most people have one each, and sometimes two. What's making these machines so popular is their controlling methods, and the big screens that let loose of the number pads. In this case, the manufacturers can make the screen much bigger than traditional, making it possible and easier for younger and older generations. I heard that it's even better for your eyesight, for you don't have to put a lot of effort in trying to read the words or pictures on the small screen, you can enlarge it better and see it perfectly.

However, the title of the day may seem ridiculous, and it sure exaggerates a bit. However, with the technological speed flowing around nowadays, who can state that it's really impossible? People wouldn't have thought the smartphones would come out in public, and everyone will be able to have one by the year of 2013 and 2014. The fact is, science is unpredictable, and inventions are happening out there every second.

We may not even need to put on our outfits, go out and to the doctor in the future, for our phones may carry the ability to take an eye exam for you, and send the pic further down to the clinic. Technology is making things much more efficient. However, aside from the following laziness, some people are question about this kind of usage on technology, is science really making our lives much better than they were in the past by simplifying it and bringing more convenience? Conveniences are good, but when things become too simple and too easy to achieve, people start to lose goals and lives become meaningless, without purposes.

To think it in another way, it's really pathetic. And that's why the lecturer today is trying to tell us by listing a simple example about the smartphones. For everything in our world is changing nonstop, not just the phones, but practically everything surrounding us. And we should not be carried and blinded by the trend, knowing what's best for your own is the only solution to this "craziness".
