Day 06 Hate the North East Wind

2/4 Taimali to Yuli

Today's just another day of torture. 120kms from Taimali to Yuli, the hills and slopes had become the least of my worries, after today.

It's the North East Wind that grabbed my attention. According to MY Tracks from my phone, I spent 8 hrs and 38 minutes for the whole trip, and about 36 minutes taking a break, which meant that I rode for about 8 hours in total. To achieve what glory? Only a distance of 120 kms. As for the factor responsible for this tragedy was the wind.

Taiwan blows a North East Wind every Winter, and the wind is extremely strong in the Eastern Taiwan, the areas which aren't blocked by the mountains. The direction I was heading today was the exactly directly where all the strong gust of wind comes from, the North East. So technically, the wind just blew into my face. And all this wind grinds me down to an average speed of 13/hr, and it cost me double strength than usual to paddle forward.

I was going at such a snail-like speed that even the journey downhill exhausted me. Basically, if you don't paddle during a downhill trip, the bike doesn't move forward; the same goes for a tour on flat surfaces, only that the wind was so strong and it push you backward.

My whole legs and limbs were sore and aching, toes and fingers numb. However, the worst goes to my bottom, it had a feeling that fireworks were being lit off on its surface. Anyway, the painful experience was over, for the day, and I got in contact with my parents and were now staying in a hotel feeling all comfy, hot bathed and fed.

Hope that a part of pain and exhaustion will go away in the next morning, the rain will stop, and the wind can have a little mercy.
