Sometimes the image of strength and power often leads to challenges and disasters. People challenge you for your place and throne, for everyone wants the kind of authority. And that's why there's a recommendation about staying vulnerable, humble to prevent that from happening.
Indeed, it was called self protection. There goes a proverb that: The first bird is the easiest to gun down...you will know what I mean if you translate it into Chinese. Anyway, there were many examples, both in history and also in this TED lecture.
That's why the teacher always teaches us about humbleness, never to be proud and full of exaggeration. However, it's not only about being weak and let the others bully you, that would just cause the opposite effect. And once you realize the power of vulnerability and know how to use it, you will find your life much easier.
For example in the office, your ability and talent may be much stronger of the supervisor, but instead of fighting against him/her, or stating out directly that what should be done instead of the original decision from the boss, you should pretend to be vulnerable. By suggesting kindly is always the best, and not to critisize and make a scene. People from the higher rank care so much about their image than we could imagine, and that's where being vulnerable helps.
