TED/Holly Morris: Why stay in Chernobyl? Because it's home.

Chernobyl was the site of the world's worst nuclear accident and there's even a horror film about it in the recent years. It's about a group and tourists entering the forbidden site just out of fun but was trapped there overnight. It turned out that Chernobyl wasn't at all deserted! But was full of zombies and nuclear infected people and the Russian government was just hiding it from everyone. The whole film turned out to be really scary and it became the first image that came to my mind when I hear the word: Chernobyl.

For the past 27 years, the area around the nuclear power plant has been known as the Exclusion Zone. Which was prohibited for any entrance. It was known to have spread radioactive substances and extremely dangerous to human bodies. And yet, a community of about 200 people live there -- almost all of them elderly women. These proud grandmas defied orders to relocate because their connection to their homeland and to their community are "forces that rival even radiation."

This TED video mainly paints out a picture of Holly Morris telling the stories of women living around Chernobyl and their daily lives and deeds.

It's interesting to hear about Chernobyl. The horror of the nuclear disaster has faded from history. Yet the invisible killer is still with us, and is still just as powerful carrying the potential threat of radioactive particles. Although in the past 25 years the power of these threats has reduced by about 55%,its still fatal to life and could do much harm. Holly kept mentioned about the issue and that Russia should do something about it immediately!

Personally I don't blame the Russian government for the whole thing. Though the accident in Chernobyl really caused much harm and took away so many lives. However I don't think that it was anyone's initial intention. But just as Holly mentioned in the rest of the video, it would be wrong for the government to ignore the issue and proceed without a further investigation or resolution. It's everyone's responsibility to keep our planet a safe place.
