TED/Greg Asner: Ecology from the air

We are using energy, trying to extract every little bit of them from fire, water, the mountains, trees and now wind. As we are all aware of, there''s the gigantic turbines located on the hills generating energy from the wind. When the wind blows hard on the fans and made it turn, the energy came out through another form. And now the scientists are gain, thinking of new methods to get more of that energy, of course from the air again.

We are questioned by what really formed up the forests beside trees and bushes. It's air. Ecologist Greg Asner gave many examples why air is involved in this situation. There's the photosynthesis and the green arora rousing in the forests. Air uses a high-powered lasers to map nature in meticulous kaleidoscopic 3D detai, according to the author's own biographyl -- and now he's calling it the high tech accounting system which allows both the carbon dioxide and oxygen to flow around freely.

In this fascinating talk, Asner gives a clear message: To save our ecosystems, we need more data, gathered in new ways.

And wow, great technology! And it's one of the rare times that the one who thought of the technology also knows what to use it for, and no offense.
Apart from his magic I find this technology interesting to compare to Lian Pin Koh's talk yesterday where he talked about model planes and small GoPro cameras to monitor forests and ecosystems. You couldn't point out more clearly what the effects of different budgets are on your scientific methods.
