Second Section:
Adolescence is the key to distinguishing the two sexes, physically and mentally. The time little boys and girls hit puberty, they go through variable massive changes. These transformations help shape their personalities and characteristics, forming autonomous individuals. Since the hormones of teenage girls multiply faster at the phase, they tend to grow faster and be more mature; as for the male teenagers, aside from the growth of big muscles and broad shoulders, most of them still stay rather childish. However, what the both sexes have in common is their urge for adventures, more independence and the exploration of sexual identities. Since the transformations that the teens undergo are going to have big impact on them in the future, it’s a must that the parents take part in the reshaping of their children. And it’s also an undeniable fact that these teenagers are treated differently in their families according to gender.
Boys are often taught not to have strong emotions or empathy; girls are expected to be invested in their appearance and to be less aggressive than boys. And in terms of interests, boys are often tracked into math and science programs while girls are encouraged to excel in programs like English and nursing. When kids make these choices by themselves, it's a positive act of independence. But when the two sexes are pressured to behave in different ways, the effects can be harmful. Many differences between boys and girls start with parenting, and that they treat the boys differently to the girls.
Boys are often discouraged from playing with dolls. However, dolls are important toys for they teach the greatness of nurturing; it’s also common that most of the male teenagers don’t involve in family activities, or to help around the house. By teaching that this is not the job of a male, it encourages laziness and enhances the possibility of conflicts between them and the wives.
It harms the girls that most parents tend to give their daughters less independence than boys, instituting stricter rules and invading more in their lives. This discourages in-dependency; girls are often not encouraged to pursue subjects like mathematics and science, parents are limiting the possibilities of the daughters and controlling their interests.
