Introduction:
Nowadays, child abuse in the home and domestic violence are present in almost every society around the world, which is considered one of the latest trends of crimes.
Home abuse and domestic violence are horrible to imagine, let along the incidents to exist and swell throughout the centuries. The term can be classified on various bases: violence against spouse, children or the elderly. As for the unequal treatment of foreign workers is also conjuring to some commonly encountered cases in recent Taiwan; there are various kinds of methods that are adopted by the attacker against the victims: physical abuse, emotional abuse, psychological abuse or deprivation of financial aids. While each of these tactics is prone to result in shadows and negative impacts on the abused.
I. A creeping trend
Domestic violence is not only a problem of the developed or under developed countries but exists in both. Law, justice and the jury system may be the barriers of violence around civilization, but what’s the true identity behind thy curtains? When people discuss about the situation of bullying at homes, they often leave out the cases of home abuse in the developed countries, due to their impression that those cities are very well protected. By who? The government? Or maybe the disciplined citizens? Then how come the number of cases that are reported every year in those “strong and safe” environments has raised a high alarm recently. Yet this is not the complete picture, as most of the cases go down in the drain: unregistered or unnoticed in everyday life. On the other hand in under developed countries, people are used to see disorders around these places: famine, diseases and economic recession. Government expects nothing from the people, therefore the problems in the families are belittled and viewed as a common phenomenon. However, no matter in which of the countries, developed or under developed, there is no denying that in the latest investigations and survey domestic violence is becoming a flow that pops out everywhere just like bamboo shoots in spring. And this is a very dangerous trend creeping in our society and has to be dealt with iron hands.
II. The targets
Women and children are often the soft targets. We can’t say that the examples of men being mistreated don’t exist but comparing to the former, they sure are much more uncommon. Women and children are considered weaker than adults of the opposite sex merely in the strength and body, but these two elements are mainly the causes of violence. The situation is especially gruesome in Indian society; a significant number of deaths are taking place on daily basis as a result of family violence. Illiteracy, religious hierarchy and economical dependency on men are making the women and children of India very much inferior to the male. By the way, a male dominated society like India is consisted of stereotypes and discrimination, combining it with the above gender weakness; it results in women and children becoming the targets of abuse. Anushree Kedia, an Indian mother that suffered from domestic violence was a famous life example that shocked the media in the year of 2005. Anushree was betrothed to a rich old merchant named Bihar when she was 18 and started a new life as his thirteenth wife. Bihar got himself a few more wives in the after years and had 47 children in total. Wives were like laborers, babysitters and cleaners to him, they mainly serve as a birth machine that bears his heirs. While Bihar indulged in a life of sex and alcohol during business tours on the outside, he beat his wives and insulted them every time he came home drunk. Anushree tormented the pain and did her duty with not a bit complaints for 11 years until at last she exploded. According to the news Anushree grabbed a knife from the kitchen and slipped into the main bedroom of Bihar deep at night. She stabbed him 42 times then moved on to other rooms for more executions. All of the wives died except for one that was severely injured, none of the children survived not even her own children Tamir, Shavanna and Machuetts. Anushree was sitting on a chair with the knife lying by her side when the police force arrived, she was later diagnosed as a kind of mental disorder due to the long term repress of emotions and abuse.
III. Reasoning on the behaviors
Intellectuals and researchers often wonder the main reasons of the behavior: why do people commit violence on family members and hurt them? Family is supposed to be the home of the body and mind, it generates intimacy among the members and the people shall be your most close ones. Guesses and researches suppose that the abuser is either psychotic in behavior and requires psychological counseling or these actions are caused by gloomy events, traumas in childhood. Some people are born to have cracks in their heads or differentiated nerves and thoughts from others. These birth defects may cause their owners to behave weirdly comparing to normal people and lead to a further progress of aggression. Childhood background also has a great impact on people, whether it’s one with color or plainly black and white sometimes decide our personalities in the future. But generally domestic violence is a result of cumulative irresponsible behavior demonstrated by a section of the society. Not only the abuser is the main culprit but those who are allowing it to happen and behave like a mute spectator are the partners of the crime.
Conclusion:
Laws and the governments are the two best guards to family violence and more and more government are signing and enforcing new domestic violence acts due to the situation. Law gives an effective shelter and deals strictly with the culprits; in this case we’re hoping that the rate of home abuse may drop. But making a law is not sufficient enough for it usually takes months even a year to complete. People, ourselves will have to awake and arise. We should be told about our rights and duties. Every human being deserves the basic honor and respect. No one is entitled to take law in his hands. Besides, the law enforcement, domestic violence have deeper roots. It is the mentality of the society that covets an overhauling. Society is in-turn nothing but the constitution of individuals. Every individual should make the necessary amendments and the society will change. It is the high time to raise voice against the injustice happening to self and others. Domestic violence has no place in the modern society and should be strongly dealt with.
