2013/6/3 Talking too much (SPEECH)

I remembered hearing many life examples about this topic.

for instance, Robert has been complaining about one of the classmates in his French class for more than once. He said that that classmate of his just won’t stop talking! The guy would ask him about how his weekend went but before Robert could even answer, he started telling about everything he had done himself. And I believe that we all know someone like this man. People who talk without listening, or who seem to think that what they have to say is more fascinating than the stories of the others., and who also don’t think that listening is an important part of communication. What makes these people tick? And what can we do about them? And maybe even more important, what can you do if you happen to be one of them?

Of course, Sometimes it may be fun to be around talkative people: you can always catch on the latest gossips and news about life, and there are seldom boring and quiet moments that leaves everyone in awkwardness. But there are also time that we would prefer to be alone and minding our own business. Researchers and intellectuals pointed out that Talking is a part of what we humans do and it’s also What differentiates us from animals. But nowadays crowds are polarizing and turning themselves into people that seldom talk or people who talk a lot but rarely listen.

The best of communication involves a kind of giving and taking between talking and listening, no matter it’s only a part of information sharing or an exchange of emotions. this sharing of the speakers created mutual respect and caring about each other’s feelings that enhance relationships and form bonds. And Sometimes people who talk too much may create a great party atmosphere but meanwhile, they are unable to produce a comfortable and respected surrounding for everyone.

This is what happened with Max*, a smart, articulate friend of mine. His girlfriend was always threatening to leave him because, she said, he did not care about or understand her. Max can talk his way through any debates and win most quarrels, he may be eloquent but a lot of people aren’t happy to be around him, and it’s just because he seldom listens to the others.

Talking too much isn’t a bad thing, for some occasions really need many conversations to lighten the atmosphere and everyone’s mood/ but while we talk, we should also beware of when we should listen and give the others a chance to speak out of their feelings. Only in this way can a person be popular and caring and liked by the others.
