2013/5/20 An Interview to 《Sudden Vision Loss》

In a piece of recent news story a 13 year-old boy was reported to have gone sudden blind. It’s common that we undergo a sudden blindness but usually the darkness doesn’t last. It could be very frightening to have your eyesight pried away without any warning ahead. There are many reasons that might have led to this kind of result, including retinal detachment, migraine, TIA and stroke. Adapting from information on the Internet, firstly there are floating mass of spots and fibers that start to interfere with your vision. It’s a sign of tiredness and infection for the eyeballs. When cross-path with such situations, it’s suggested to visit a doctor immediately and have the eyes checked and cleaned. But serious problems may occur due to a lack of concern and ignorance, the vitreous of the eyeball gradually peels away from the retina and the person is at a risk of a retinal hole or tear developing. Which could result in a retinal detachment that eventually plunder your eyesight. And that’s just what happened to our classmate Tommy, who underwent the above situation and is now in a surgical procedure trying to fix his eye.

Tommy experienced the sudden vision loss of his right eye one day on his way back home, it was no special day and he recalled doing nothing out of ordinary in particular. “It was like any other day, I finished school and was heading back to the dormitory. But in an instant I lost sight in one eye. It was fast, so fast that it felt unreal.” Tommy said. He had been visiting the doctor since then and had underwent plenty of surgeries including cutting the eye open and lots of medical assistance. Now the situation is getting better for his right eye can make blurry shape of things rather than in a total darkness.

“I was scared as hell in the first place and almost wetted my pants, but ration told me to calm down and find a nearest place to sit down. I reached for my phone in the pocket and dialed through shaking hands. I told myself not to panic for at least I still got my one good eye. My mom came to pick me up and took me to the clinic, I was nervous the whole time through the examination. What if the doctor announced that my eyesight was gone for good and I have to live with only one eye for the rest of my life?!” Tommy’s face was twisting so hard during his recall. Hopefully the doctor said that he will be fine in a few surgeries and visits to the clinic.

During the interview with Tommy I realized the fear for blindness and its importance. We have taken our eyes for granted but what if we lose it one other day and never get it back? Tommy’s story really gave me a lot to think about.
